Ocean’s Eight (2018) + Franchise Cinema + Pandora’s Box (1929)
It was a pleasure to be invited as a guest on the Senses of Cinema podcast for the month of June. We talked about the recent instalment in the Ocean’s franchise, Ocean’s Eight (2018), with a discussion about franchise cinema more broadly, as well as the Weimar cinema classic by G.W. Pabst, Pandora’s Box (1929), which is currently on a retrospective season at the BFI.
For the June edition of the Senses of Cinema podcast, we’re joined by academic and franchise aficionado Tara Lomax. We’ll be talking about Oceans 8 and the relationship between the film and its predecessors. And to coincide with its revival through the BFI, we return to GW Pabst’s classic Pandora’s Box. Then we look at the state of the franchise, and discuss superheroes, hunger games and sparkly vampires. And, as always we’ll end on the best things we’ve seen in the month of June.
